Council discusses budget, taxes, burn ban

A public hearing was held prior to the City Council meeting September 16, 2019 at City Hall.

The public input was collected for or against a proposed replat of Meridiana Parkway Phase 7.

During the regular meeting, the first and final reading was done regarding approving and adopting the City of Manvel operating, capital improvement  program and MEDC budget for the fiscal year 2020.

Council also considered action to ratify the property tax increase reflected in the 2020 fiscal budget that was just adopted that raises more property taxes than the fiscal year 2019 budget.

Council also approved the first and final reading of an ordinance for the assessment, levy and collection of ad valorem taxes for the City of Manvel for the year 2020.

A resolution authorizing publication of notice of intention to issue certificates of obligation was considered.

Council approved a burn ban for 90 days and authorized the Fire Marshal to ift it early should the Keetch-Byram Drought Index as monitored and reported by the Texas Forest Service, reach and maintain 400 or less for five consecutive days.
