4th annual Scarecrow Contest begins October 19 and businesses and community groups are preparing their versions of scarecrows that go with their theme or business characteristics.
Sponsored by Friends of Downtown Friendswood, the 2019 contest is open to all Friendswood residents and businesses.
Downtown businesses can showcase their scarecrows in front of their stores. In the past, many businesses created their scarecrows with their business theme. Heritage Gardeners on Spreading Oaks had scarecrows gardening at their clubhouse. Friendswood ISD had each campus or department create scarecrows that reflected their campus or program.
Other scarecrows were dressed to shop or to represent cartoon celebrities such as Sponge Bob.
New this year, Friendswood residents, non-downtown businesses and other groups can display their scarecrows at assigned downtown locations.
All registered scarecrows will be judged by an impartial panel of judges, according to chairman of the event Michelle Thompson.
The contest will run from October 19 to November 9, 2019.
