Toy, food drives continue at ACC, MHS

A holiday food and toy drive for needy families is being jointly coordinated by Alvin ISD and Alvin Community College, with a sorting event scheduled at Manvel High School on Dec. 4.

Toys for Tots donation drop offs are available at Alvin Community College campuses, and Alvin ISD schools have been collecting non perishable food donations during November, coordinators say. Several tons of food were distributed in 2018 to more than 370 area families.

Volunteers will sort and pack food donations in both the Alvin Community College gym from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 5 and at Manvel High School from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 4.

A Breakfast with Santa event during which donations are distributed will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at the ACC Student Center, 3110 Mustang Road in Alvin. Food and toys also will be distributed at Manvel High.

Volunteers are still needed to sort and distribute, says organizer and ACC digital marketing specialist Sammi Sanders.

“We have one day to sort the food and re-sack it to ensure each family receives a little of everything,” Sanders said. “We always need volunteers to help with this process.”
