The weather forecast appears good thus far for two Pearland traditions: a festival and lighted parade set this weekend.
The forecast for Friday calls for sunny skies during the day and a 10 percent chance of rain that continues into Saturday. Rain chances climb to 20 percent on Sunday with partly cloudy skies forecast.
Hosted by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, Friday’s Hometown Christmas includes a snow hill, tree lighting ceremony, strolling entertainers, food vendors, visits from Santa and performances from local groups beginning at 7 p.m. Friday at Independence Park, 3449 Pearland Parkway.
The traditional tree lighting and visit from Santa will include live performances on the Westside Veterinary Hospital Stage and snow in the HEB Winter Wonderland.
Parking at the event site will be for handicapped accessible patrons only at John Lizer and Liberty Drive. Regular event parking will be available at Pearland High School, 3775 S. Main St. Parking and entry are free.
The “Toyland” themed lighted parade is set to step off at 6 p.m. this Saturday in Pearland, proceeding down FM 518 to Pearland Parkway.
In its 38th year, the Hometown Christmas Parade begins at Old Alvin Road, and will include floats and walking groups from businesses, nonprofits, schools and more — all lighted.
The Pearland Parks and Recreation Department hosts the Hometown Christmas Festival from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at Independence Park, 3449 Pearland Parkway. The traditional tree lighting and visit from Santa will include live performances on the Westside Veterinary Hospital Stage and snow in the HEB Winter Wonderland.
Parade registration is now closed. For information, call 281-412-8900.
Also happening this Friday is opening night for the annual Alvin Christmas Train, a family friendly train ride through lighted decorations at 1407 Victory Lane, Alvin. The ticketed event includes a walking trail and story at Mrs. Claus’ cottage.
Rides will be 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. weekdays and 6 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Dec. 23. Tickets at the door are $12 each, but advance tickets are recommended for $10, with ages 2 and under free. For more information, visit www.thechristmastrain.com.
