Sporting the theme, “There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays,” this year’s Santa in the Park will include all the usual favorites this Saturday.

The event is 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Stevenson Park.

“A variety of rides includes a pretty significant sized snow hill for the kids to do snow sledding,” City Manager Morad Kabiri said. “We would like to thank Hometown Bank of Friendswood for their generous donation to make this event possible.”

Vocalist Sarah Grace will make an appearance at the 12th annual event. Grace competed on the popular NBC show,  “The Voice,” in 2018.

The Chamber of lighted parade begins near Dunn Brothers Coffee on Heritage Drive, ending at Stevenson Park for the tree lighting and fireworks show.

Mayor Mike Foreman will assist Santa in flipping the switch to light the city’s Christmas tree, kicking off a fireworks show. Activities beginning at 3 p.m. include a bungee jump, train, moonwalks, face painting, obstacle course and sports challenge. Wristbands for rides can be purchased in advance for $5 off with a new, unwrapped toy to be donated to the Blue Santa Program at the Friendswood Parks and Recreation office.

“If you can’t find something to do in Friendswood in December, that is your fault,” said Friendswood Mayor Pro Tem Sally Branson. “We celebrate the holidays a lot.”

Beginning at 5:45 p.m., FM 518 between Edgewood Drive and Stevenson Park will be closed for the parade. Traffic heading north will be diverted at Whispering Pines. The city recommends Blackhawk Blvd. as an alternate route. Southbound traffic on Friendswood Drive will be diverted at Edgewood Drive, with Sunset Drive recommended as the best alternate route. Streets intersection with Friendswood Drive will have police, barricades and traffic cones in place. The parade is expected to last about 45 minutes, and drivers are urged to use caution and watch for pedestrians and children near the parade route.

There will be additional parking within walking distance of Stevenson Park. Friendswood’s Old City Park is available by entering at Merriewood Drive and walking along the concrete path and over the bridge connecting Old City Park and Stevenson Park. Another option is to park at Cline Elementary School and walk through Old City Park and across the bridge to Stevenson Park.

Shuttle service will be available from the Old Junior High School, 402 Laurel, dropping off in front of City Hall.  Shuttle service will be suspended during the parade road closures from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
