The calendar for the 2021 school year in Friendswood will be much like that of past years, the FISD Board of Trustees decided this month.

After committee research and feedback, Trustees adopted the academic calendar on Dec. 9.

Next year’s calendar will have a full week off for Thanksgiving, two weeks for winter break and one for spring break. Like last year, the calendar has an earlier, mid-week school start and teacher in service days that are spread throughout the year, FISD officials said.

The first day of school is set for Wednesday, Aug. 19. Professional development days are Oct. 14, Nov. 9, Feb. 15 and April 23. A day off for Good Friday is April 9.

The Thanksgiving break is Nov. 23-27, winter break runs from Dec. 21 to Jan. 4 and spring break is March 15-19, 2021. The last day of school in 2021 will be May 27, which is the Thursday before Memorial Day of 2021.

There are two early dismissal days: Dec 18, 2020, and May 27, 2021.

The calendar was developed by a committee made up of staff from each campus and district administrators. Their recommendations are reviewed at a series of public meetings and posted on the district website and social media for input.
