It’s that time of year when scarecrows come out in Friendswood. This year the scarecrows will be part of the Fifth Annual Downtown Scarecrow Contest held October 17-November 7, 2020. The contest is open to all Friendswood businesses and residents.

Registration is underway for locations in the downtown area that will have scarecrows.

The contest is open for creating an original, fun fall display which incorporates a whimsical or traditional scarecrow.

This year the contest will not only give large prize baskets for first, second and third places but also a new People’s Choice Award.

The contest is open to anyone who wants to create and display a scarecrow in the Friendswood Downtown District area. The Friendswood Downtown District is defined as the area between FM 2351 and Whispering Pines within one block north and south of FM 518.

Businesses, individuals, families, and groups can register at www.fdfa.org to secure notice of participation or receive an assigned location to showcase a scarecrow.

All scarecrow entries must be placed in the Friendswood Downtown District. If a submission is for an individual, family, group or business outside the Downtown District, the scarecrow committee will assign a location to play the entry.

The scarecrow committee is actively planning the contest along with fall decorations in the area and additional activities.
