Halloween events begin throughout area

Halloween events for families are planned in various locations in the area. While this year might be different, many organizations and groups have created safe, fun ways to celebrate the occasion.

The first fun fall event containing the spookiness of Halloween is the Halloween Sunset Cinema hosted by Pearland Parks & Rec and sponsored by VCA Westside Animal Hospital. The location is the Recreation Center & Natatorium north lot at 4141 Bailey Rd. Price is $15 per vehicle and event opens at 7 pm with movie at 8 pm. The Addams Family will be shown October 23, IT on October 24, Ghostbusters on October 30 and Casper on October 31. Go to Parks & Rec Facebook page for details on the Halloween themed movies.

The Friendswood Public Library is also offering their first drive in movie night with Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride Oct. 23 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the library at 416 S. Friendswood Drive. The movie can be viewed from a car or on the lawn. Participants can bring lawn chairs and their own refreshments, masks and bug spray. The Delores Fenwick Nature Center is hosting paranormal programs for their “falloween” fun. On October 23 they are offering Freaky Face Fridays: Black Cats; on October 28. Nocturnal Animals will be offered through the Pearland Library Program and on October 30 Freaky Fact Fridays will offer Witches Brew (Plants and Fungi). See the DFNC Facebook page for details.

Peace Church Pearland is hosting a Drive Through Trunk or Treat on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 3 to 5 pm. Guests are invited to stay in their cars and drive through as volunteers hand out candy from decorated trunks. The event is free, the public is invited and costumes encouraged. The church is located at 2849 Miller Ranch Road in Pearland.

Pearland Parks & Rec Department is hosting the in person Movie Murder Mystery in Independence Park in Pearland October 27. Registered participants will be assigned to take on the roles of various cast and crew members and includes a fun scavenger hunt to find clues. Participants must be 16 or older to participate. On October 30, children in costume can trick or treat at MSO Cookies (My Sweet Obsession Cookies) at 3706 E. Broadway and receive a free mini-chocolate chip cookie for their bakery (while supplies last).

A Drive Thru Trunk or Treat will take place in Friendswood at Cline Elementary  on October 30 from 5 to 6:30 pm. Adults interested in having a vehicle in the event can register to donate $75 to the Cline PTO which is a tax deductible donation. To register a vehicle to participate, go to Clinepto.com.

Food Truck Friday: Almost Halloween Date Night is planned for October 30 and hosted by Stanfield Properties in Friendswood. It’s a grown up date night for  adult witches and werewolves and they can dine under the stars with food truck fare from Nom Mi Street Tacos, Space City Spudz, Rolling Republic, and Angie’s Cake Balls + Pops, enjoy live music by local favorites Patty O’Beers, and quench  thirst at an outdoor full cash bar. Social distancing and mask-wearing are a must. It all happens from 6 to 10 pm at 807 S. Friendswood Dr. in Friendswood.

A Drive Thru Haunted House created by the Friendswood High School Theatre Department will be open October 31 from 7 to 11 pm in parking lot B at the high school Tickets are $5 per person and only cash and exact change can be accepted. It’s their annual Halloween fundraiser and this year, it’s a Haunted Highway. The high school is located at 702 Greenbriar Dr. in Friendswood.

Alvin Community College along with Alvin Parks and Rec are hosting the 16th Annual Trick or Treat Trail: Drive Thru Edition October 31 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Children and their parents can trick or treat in a safe, fun environment at 3110 Mustang Rd. with stations sponsored by local businesses.

Cub Scout Pack 463 at First United Methodist Church is hosting a Trunk or Treat on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 2 to 6 pm at 2314 N. Grand in Pearland. The event is open to the public.

Meridiana is hosting a Trunk or Treat October 31 from 5 to 8 pm in their Oasis Village area. Events include a bike decorating contest, face painting, food trucks, popcorn and a movie night for families to enjoy. Meridiana is located at 4003 Meridiana Parkway in Iowa Colony.
