Indian Culture Fest with Chariot Parade at Pearland Town Center
March 23 @ 9:00 am - 8:00 pm
The “Puranava” Indian Culture Fest with a highlight Chariot-pulling parade along with a number of youth competitions will be held at the Pearland Town Center Pavilion on Saturday, March 23.
At 4 p.m. there will be special Indian regional exhibits depicting the unique cultures of various Indian states, cultural arts performances, Indian food booths, a bazaar featuring saris and exotic clothes, jewelry, toys and more, kids activities including henna, face painting, etc. The culture fest is a free and open event.
The evening will culminate with a unique “Jagannatha” Chariot Parade where a traditional chariot will be pulled around the Town Center Pavilion in a gesture of universal harmony, amid music, dance and more regional arts performances. This chariot parade will emulate a famous annual Chariot festival of Lord Jagannatha, held annually in India. It was this original festival, with its huge chariot and giant wheels that gave the word “juggernaut” to the English language.
Earlier in the day, starting at 9 a.m., competitions will be conducted for all ages of children/youth in Art, Chess, Indian classical music, Indian classical dance, and a Heritage Vocabulary Bee. These competitions are open to participants of all cultural backgrounds. To see competition guidelines and register, go to www.puranava-usa.org.
Organized by Global Organization for Divinity, in collaboration with Love to Share Foundation America, this project is supported by a City of Pearland Cultural Arts Grant program from the City of Pearland Convention & Visitors Bureau. The chariot parade is co-hosted by the Universal Shraddha Foundation.
