Miller Outdoor Theatre Presents Swing, Baby , Swing!
October 13 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Swing, Baby, Swing! is a new musical by Norma Miller and Dance Houston about love, joy, and bringing people together. It is inspired by the life and times of the original Lindy Hoppers, who danced at The Savoy Ballroom, the first integrated public ballroom in the United States.
The musical features original songs by Miller including “Swing, Baby, Swing” and “Swingin’ Frankie’s Way”, a tribute to the late, great Frankie Manning. It also features her favorite songs from the Tony-nominated musical Bubbling Brown Sugar by Lofton Mitchell with big band favorites “It Don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got That Swing” and “Stompin’ at the Savoy”. The ensemble recreates the 1937 dance craze The Big Apple and tops the breakdancing and air steps memorialized in the 1930’s Hollywood films by The Marx Brothers (A Day at the Races, Olsen and Johnson’s Hellzapoppin’).
This is a ticketed event for the covered seating area. Free tickets are available (4 per person over age 16 while they last) at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day of the performance between the hours of 10:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. If tickets remain at 1:00 p.m., the box office will re-open one hour before show time to distribute the remaining tickets. As always, open seating on the hill. The shows goes on rain or shine.
Miller Outdoor Theatre is a short drive from Pearland.
