All-District gridiron picks Dawson, Pearland, Shadow Creek

The 2023 football season proved to be very competitive as three teams were crowned District 23-6A Co-Champions.

Dawson, Pearland, and Shadow Creek all had 6-1 district records and advanced to the post-season.

Dawson and Shadow Creek both fell in the first round, while Pearland beat Dickinson 16-14 in five overtimes to advance to the area round, where they fell to Atascocita.

The Dawson coaching staff was named “Coaching Staff of the Year” by their coaching peers. Dawson began the season 0-3 with two losses by only one point to Hightower and Tomball. The Eagles won 6-out-of-8 games for the rest of the year.

Dawson senior running back Bryce Burgess was the unanimous choice for District MVP. Burgess had 161 carries for 1,329 yards and 19 TDs, while he caught 12 passes for 144 yards and one score.

Pearland junior running back LaDamion McDowell was selected as the District “Offensive MVP” after he rushed for 1,495 yards on 238 carries and 32 touchdowns.

Shadow Creek defensive lineman Zion Taylor was named District “Defensive MVP.”
Shadow Creek’s Alex Kirkland was named District “Return Specialist.”

Pearland senior QB Cole Morkovsky was named District “Newcomer of the Year.” Morkovsky was 160 of 256 passing for 2,245 yards and 20 TDs, while leading the Oilers to a 9-3 season record.

Pearland sophomore defensive back Jaylen Stewart was named District “Defensive Newcomer of the Year.”
