Maintaining and improving current parks, completing 2007 bond projects and increasing opportunities for families and teens are among recommendations from a preliminary parks study.
Pearland officials on March 11 presented findings from study done by Greenplay LLC, the company hired to help develop the city’s Parks Master Plan, which will shape the development of parks and recreation for the next 10 years.
Feedback came from mailed surveys, focus groups and other sources. Better communication is also among priorities listed in the presentation as well as survey results.
The Shadow Creek Ranch Sports Complex was among 2007 bond projects, but was delayed after the economic slump. The parks is now scheduled to open by the end of the year.
Another priority emerging is increasing overall awareness of recreation programs that the city does offer, along with pursuing grant opportunities for more improvements.
Final approval of the Parks Master Plan is expected this summer.
