Friendswood will reimburse the developer of a new office building $20,000 in an economic development agreement.

Lifestyle Financial Advisors Inc. is set to build the 10,000-square-foot building at 211 W. Edgewood Dr. and relocate from Brazoria County to occupy roughly half the building.

City Council approved the agreement unanimously in its regular Monday meeting.

The two-story office building is expected to spur new development along W. Edgewood Drive and improve property values in the immediate area. The total new revenue to the city over a 10-year period is estimated at $131,000.

Also on Monday, Council appointed Yolanda Robles as an alternate member of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee and promoted Dennis Rundell from an alternate member to a regular position.

Council voted 6-1, with Councilman Steve Rockey opposed, to approve a final reading of an annual “rate adjustment” for solid waste disposal by Progressive Waste Solutions.

The company requested an increase of 1.10 percent based on the consumer price index, with no change in fuel charges.

The increase reflects a $0.18 per month rate change for residential customers, meaning the total bill for a single-family residence will increase from $15.52 to $15.70.
