Scouting and community leaders gathered April 23 as the Friends of Scouting organization honored Friendswood Police Chief Robert Weiners with its 2015 Golden Eagle Award.

The award recognizes an individual’s community contributions that are representative of the Boy Scouts’ core values.

In 2014, local scouts gave more than 160,000 service hours, which translate to more than $1 million in volunteer service wages.

Scouting programs rely on support from the community. The April 23 fundraiser was held to help reach the Bay Area Council’s 2015 Friends of Scouting Goal of $510,000.
