Friendswood splits district basketball games

The Friendswood boys’ basketball team showed its determination using a strong third-quarter performance to take a 54-47 win over Clear Lake in a District 24-6A basketball game.
    The Falcons (16-14, 6-7) led 16-15 at halftime before the Mustangs outscored Lake, 19-10, in the third period to open a 34-26 lead.
    Friendswood (12-19, 5-8) then held off a Lake challenge in the final period to earn the win.
    Chance Ayers led Friendswood with 15 points, Ty Shelby scored 13 and Alex Dehoyos finished with 12.
    Jeremiah Maldonado paced the Falcons with 13 points and Ajare Sanni scored 10.
    Friendswood has had a tough season losing two district games in overtime. The Mustangs ended their season against Clear Brook on Tuesday night (late).
    District 24-6A’s four playoff representatives are champion Dickinson along with Clear Creek, Clear Brook and Clear Springs.
                                                        Dickinson 70 – Friendswood 54    
    Friendswood gave league-leading Dickinson all it wanted in the first half, but the Gators pulled away in the third quarter to earn a 70-54 District 24-6A boys’ basketball win.
    The Mustangs led 17-12 at one quarter before trailing just 29-27 at halftime. The Gators erupted for 27 third-quarter points to build a 56-38 lead entering the fourth quarter.
    The Mustangs took the final eight minutes 16-14.
    Andrew Alston led Friendswood (11-19, 4-8) in scoring with 12 points.
