Forty thousand pounds of snow, hundreds of pancakes and “The Voice” contestant Sarah Grace will highlight the Friendswood holiday festivities that kick off this Saturday with a fun run.
Friendswood’s annual Flapjack Fun Run begins at 8 a.m. this Saturday in Stevenson Park.
The 5K draws hundreds of participants each year.
“They run for trophies and prizes and get a pancake breakfast from Whataburger,” Friendswood Mayor Mike Foreman explained in his regular video on the Friendswood Channel.
More details about the race are available at parks.friendswood.com.
The following week, photos with Santa and sledding down a massive snow hill are among the activities at the annual “Santa in the Park” scheduled Dec. 14 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Stevenson Park.
Vocalist Sarah Grace will make an appearance at the 12th annual event following her appearance on “The Voice.” Grace competed on the popular NBC show in 2018.
Mayor Foreman will assist Santa in flipping the switch to light the city’s Christmas tree, kicking off a fireworks show. The 20-foot decorated tree is sponsored by HomeTown Bank of Friendswood.
Activities beginning at 3 p.m. include a bungee jump, train, moonwalks, face painting, obstacle course and sports challenge. Wristbands for rides can be purchased in advance for $5 off with a new, unwrapped toy to be donated to the Blue Santa Program at the Friendswood Parks and Recreation office.
Also on Dec. 14, the Chamber of Commerce “Home for the Holidays” lighted parade begins at 6 p.m. near Dunn Brothers Coffee on Heritage Drive, ending at Stevenson Park for the tree lighting and fireworks shop that will begin at about 7:30 p.m. For more information, call 281-996-3220 or email [email protected].
