Pearland City Council met February 24 in a Special Meeting prior to their regularly scheduled meeting to discuss the Pearland Prosperity Strategic Plan.
The Pearland Economic Development Corporation (PEDC) recently facilitated a strategic plan to guide the community’s future economic development actions. The result, Pearland Prosperity Strategic Plan took months of research, public input, and feedback from the project’s Steering Committee.
This committee included City Council members and representatives from the PEDC Board of Directors, Chamber of Commerce, school districts, and City staff members.
Early drafts and later revised versions of the plan were reviewed and discussed. The committee reports that many comments that were given have been placed into the Strategic Plan. A draft version was presented to Council on November 25, 2019.
The plan was approved by the Steering Committee on December 11, 2019 and by the PEDC Board on January 30, 2020. The Pearland Chamber of Commerce Board will consider the plan at its February meeting.
The plan identifies two Community goals that define the city’s economic development: economic growth and diversification and a community of choice in Greater Houston.
Economic growth and diversification is defined in the document as provide opportunities for residents to prosper and enhance Pearland’s fiscal sustainability through a holistic approach to economic development.
Quality of choice in Greater Houston is defined as ensure Pearland’s quality of life and quality of place continue to attract and retain diverse individuals and families.
These two goals are studied as initiatives in seven focus areas: business development, business formation and early-stage growth, site development, corridors, infrastructure and mobility, quality of life and quality of place, and workforce and talent.
