By Karolyn Gephart

The 5th annual Downtown Friendswood Scarecrow Contest begins October 17 and runs through November 7. The contest is open to all Friendswood residents and businesses.

Sponsored by the FDFA (Friends of Downtown Friendswood Association) the free registration is at www.fdfa.org.

Prize baskets will be given for first place ($250), second place ($100), third place ($75) and People’s Choice ($50). People’s Choice Award is a new category this year.

Also new this year is a Pumpkin Stroll area. It will be off W. Shadowbend behind McDonald’s in Friendswood. The community is invited to contribute pumpkins, gourds, fall décor or decorated pumpkins for the stroll area. For information on dropping off items, contact Michelle Thompson at scarecrows@fdfa.org.

All are invited to vote for their favorite scarecrow with #fdfascarecrows and photo of the favorite to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.

Vote People’s Choice with #fdfascarecrows & photo of your favorite scarecrow to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.

The purpose of the contest is to fill Downtown Friendswood with scarecrows on both sides of Friendswood Drive for a fall welcome and a fun drive full of unique and fun creations.

“We need your scarecrows for this fun event,” Thompson said. Thompson has been instrumental in the past four years of the contest.

Businesses do not have to be located downtown to have a scarecrow in the contest in the downtown area.
