The Pearland Oilers opened up District 23-6A action by sweeping the Strake Jesuit Crusaders 13-8 and 4-3. The win improves the Oilers season record to 14-6-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Both teams scored twice in the first frame to make the score 2-2. Strake added three more in the top of the second for a 5-2 advantage which stook until the bottom of the fourth when the Oilers erupted for eight runs to take the lead 10-5.
Pearland added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to increase the margin to 12-5.
Strake answered with three runs in the top of the sixth frame to cut the lead to 12-8, but the Oilers sealed the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score 13-8.
Mark Zapata picked up the win for Pearland as he allowed six hits, five runs while striking out seven for his five innings of work on the mound.
Pearland 4 – Strake Jesuit 3
Caden Ferraro pitched six innings, allowed five hits, three runs, struck out seven and walked six as the Oilers nipped Strake Jesuit 4-3.
Pearland scored a run in the top of the third, and six innings while Strake scored run in the bottom of the third, fourth, and sixth frames.
Trailing 3-2 after six innings, Pearland scored a pair of runs on a double in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 lead.
Jake Mader-Cooper pitched the seventh inning in relief with two strikeouts for the save.
