USFA Hosts June 10 Opening Ceremonies Event in Pearland

Date:

On Friday, June 10 the United States Fastpitch Association (USFA) will host an opening ceremonies event in honor of the 2022 Futures National Tournament and the young athletes scheduled to compete in the series throughout the weekend.

The first of its kind tournament will include the kick-off event from 7 to 9 p.m. at Pearland Town Center and feature food trucks, an on-site DJ, a personal welcome from Mayor Kevin Cole, and a tug-of-war championship between participating athletes. The Pearland Convention & Visitors Bureau (PCVB) encourages community members to help welcome the competitors and their families at this fun and interactive commencement celebration.

“We’re excited to support this inaugural event in Pearland in our continued partnership with USFA”, said Tracy Rohrbacher, Executive Director of the PCVB. “The community is invited to join us in welcoming the Futures National athletes and their families to the city as they get ready for a weekend of strong competition.”

USFA has been a strong advocate for equality in sports for over 20 years and organizes fastpitch, girls softball tournaments for 8u through 18u players. This is the inaugural year for this new, branded event hosted by USFA.

The Futures National tournament is the fifth in a series of an eight-tournament agreement for 2022 between USFA and the PCVB. Since the partnership began in 2019, Pearland has hosted a total of 419 teams and an estimated 17,545 visitors to the city.

Each division-winning team will receive $1,000 in USFA Tournament credit for select events during the 2022-2023 season. Registration is still open, and interested teams can apply on the tournament’s official webpage.

Get a selfie with Scratch of the Houston Sabercats, eat some delicious local cuisine, dance to the music under the Pearland Town Center pavilion, and join in welcoming these athletes and their families to Pearland.
