Brazoria-Galveston County Farm Bureau announces scholarship winners

Date:

To help local students achieve their dreams of furthering their education, Brazoria-Galveston County Farm Bureau awarded $8,000 in scholarships.

“We offer these scholarships at a local level to help kids right here at home,” Brazoria-Galveston County Farm Bureau President Charles LeCompte said. “Trade school, college and university education can be expensive. Scholarships are one way we invest in the future of Texas agriculture.”

Tristyn Reed and Hannah Cantrell received scholarships through Brazoria-Galveston County Farm Bureau’s scholarship program.

“These young women were selected based on their academic, scholastic and agricultural involvement, LeCompte said. “We are proud of their commitment to their education and to agriculture.”

Tristyn Reed graduated from Pearland High School. Tristyn will be attending West Texas A&M University in the fall where she will study Agriculture Education. During her high school career, Tristyn was involved in the FFA program all 4 years and served as an officer not only for her high school chapter, but also for Area III. She also played volleyball and served on the Principal’s Advisory Committee. Tristyn has a passion for public speaking and advocating for agriculture and wants to help other youth find that same love for agriculture.

Hannah Cantrell graduated second in her class from Hitchcock High School. She will be attending East Texas Baptist University in the fall where she will study Kinesiology and Health Education. She hopes to pursue a career in education. During her high school career, Hannah was involved in FFA and 4-H showing swine at the Galveston County Fair. She was also a member of the powerlifting team, a varsity cheerleader and a gymnastic coach at Santa Fe Sports.

“We are confident these students will be successful in their future endeavors and look forward to following their college careers,” LeCompte said.
