Date:

Shadow Creek built a 30-14 lead in the third quarter and then held off a Clear Springs team in the fourth quarter to get a 37-26 non-district win to improve to 2-0 on the 2022 football season.

The Sharks scored on an Aiden Bui 25-yard field goal to take an early 3-0 lead before the Chargers took a 7-3 lead on a 17-yard run by Xai’Shaun Edwards in the first quarter.

Shadow Creek took a 10-7 lead when QB Duke Butler hit Caleb Washington on a 7-yard pass to give the Sharks a 10-7 lead as Bui hit the PAT late in the first period.

The defense scored a touchdown for the Sharks in the second quarter as Corey Swiney, Jr. scooped up a fumble and returned it 51-yards to the end zone to stretch the lead to 16-7 with 2:10 left before intermission.

Clear Springs kicked off to Shadow Creek to begin the second half and it didn’t take long for the Sharks to extend the lead as Tylik Burton found strong blocking and returned the kickoff 92-yards for a quick score giving the Sharks a 23-7 advantage.

With 9:20 left in the third quarter, Butler fired a 34-yard scoring pass to Joshua Best for a 30-7 lead.

But Clear Springs wasn’t going away as QB Brendan Malloy hit Ashton Schumann for a 43-yard touchdown pass to cut the margin to 30-14.

Malloy then scored on a 3-yard keeper to make the score 30-20 as the two-point conversion attempt failed.

Shadow Creek got a 15-yard scoring run with 1:27 left in the game to give the Sharks some breathing room.

Clear Springs made the final score 37-26 after scoring on a 61-yard touchdown pass from Malloy to Schumann with 1:18 remaining in the game.

Butler was 14-of-17 passing for 159 yards and two scores.
