BAKFISH Brewing to brew no more

Date:

Dec. 31 will not only mark the end of the year, but the end of Pearland’s first brewery as well.

BAKFISH Brewing Company announced they will be permanently closing at the end of the year in an open letter from co-owner Kris Szecsy. “COVID hit us hard. The current inflation is taking its toll on us as well. We don’t see people coming out like they used to.”

Straddling the border of Pearland and Friendswood, BAKFISH first opened its doors in 2016. The brewery was previously home to a Sunbelt equipment rental facility before being converted to a taproom with covered patio.

In recent years you could also find BAKFISH beers in bars and retail locations throughout the Houston area including Specs, Total Wine, and Kroger. Popular brews like Defying Gravity, Cheap Sunglasses, and All Y’all Golden Ale could be found as far as Angleton and Galveston, but the rising costs of ingredients and increased competition in a saturated market have taken their toll.

“We have no regrets in this adventure that we have been on. Very few people get to say that they got a chance to live their dream,” said Szecsy. “We made it almost 7 years and I am proud of that. We have had some of the best employees and have made some friends that I expect to last a lifetime.”

BAKFISH will be open and offering all beers at $5 per glass until they run out. Merchandise will also be sold at a 25% discount until sold out.
