The Shadow Creek Lady Sharks rode the shooting of Kameryn Phillips, who scored a game-high 24 points, to defeat the Alief Taylor Lady Lions 54-46 in a District 23-6A contest.
Shadow Creek improves to 18-11 overall and 5-2 in district which is good for second place behind the league-leading Pearland Lady Oilers (7-0).
The Lady Sharks took the opening quarter 12-7 but went through a cold spell offensively in the second period as Taylor outscored Shadow Creek 17-9 to take a 24-21 lead at intermission over the Lady Sharks.
Poor shooting at the free throw line hampered the Lady Sharks as they hit only 5-of-17 shots from the charity stripe. Taylor was 6-of-8 from the line while getting a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter.
Shadow Creek found their offensive range in the third as Phillips hit three baskets and was 4-of-6 from the free throw line which gave her 10 points while the rest of the team added nine points in the 19-6 period. The Lady Sharks reclaimed the lead 40-30 heading into the final frame.
The Lady Sharks withstood Taylor’s final offensive flurry 16-14 to post the 54-46 district win.
Phillips scored 16 points in the second half to lead the Lady Sharks.
Nataliyah Gray scored 19 points for Taylor.
