Junior Master Gardeners have openings for youth

Date:

Youth gardening group, Heritage Junior Master Gardeners Kids will have openings for new JMG Kids in the fall.  The group meets monthly for gardening curriculum and fun activities based on horticulture.

Master County Master Gardeners and the Texas AgriLife Extension Agent Stephen Brueggerhoff work with the group in providing plants. support and information.
The JMG Kids work with Heritage Gardener members Kaye Corey and her assistant Paula Matranga. Corey is a Galveston County Master Gardeners and both Corey and Matranga work with Keep Friendswood Beautiful.

The Heritage JMG Kids have won many State awards through the Master Gardener Program and have been named the State’s Most Outstanding JMG Program with Corey winning the top State award for being a JMG Director.

Heritage JMG program meets at the Heritage Gardeners’ clubhouse on Spreading Oaks in Friendswood. An area of the club’s Briscoe Gardens is maintained by the JMGs. The youth also participate in the Floral Design and Horticulture Shows presented biyearly at the clubhouse.

They also have a booth with plants in the club’s Spring Market in April.

Participants receive Junior Master Gardener certificates upon completion of the program.
