Everyone seems to think their hometown has the worst drivers.
For those in Pearland, though, a recently released study by ConsumerAffairs ranks Pearland as No. 2 in the state for best drivers and at No. 8 nationwide.
The site based its rankings on numbers of auto crashes and driving violations gathered from the U.S. Department of Transportation. In Texas, Pearland landed behind the north Texas city of McKinney.
Nationwide, the safest drivers are in Green Bay, Wis., followed by Cary, North Carolina, Oxnard, Calif. and Bellevue, Wash., according to the study. In places five through seven were McKinney; Lynn, Mass.; and Glenndale, Calif.
The U.S. city with the worst score was Memphis, Tenn., with 34 fatal crashes for 100,000 residents. Several other Tennessee cities rank in the top 60 for worst drivers: Knoxville at 12th, Clarksville at 17th, Chattanooga at 19th and Nashville at 59th.
