Genevieve “Ginny” (Townley) Hackney

Date:

Genevieve “Ginny” (Townley) Hackney, 90, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away on July 24, 2023, from a stroke.

Ginny was born on February 20, 1933 to Cole Younger Townley, Sr., and Verna Watson Townley in Huntsville, Texas. After she graduated from Huntsville High School, she went on to study journalism at Sam Houston State University.

In 1951 Ginny married her high school sweetheart, Clinton R. Hackney, Jr. Ginny and Clinton went on to have two sons, Clinton R. Hackney, III, and Steven Townley Hackney.
Ginny loved her family and her community. Together she and Clinton bought and developed a small ranch in Friendswood, and she supported the development of the family-owned business, H & H Music Co., headquartered in Houston, Texas. Her sons were an integral part of her life and she devoted herself to supporting their passions, especially football and motocross racing.

She was active in the Friendswood Methodist Church, volunteered as a paramedic with the Friendswood Fire Department and enjoyed piloting airplanes and helicopters. Ginny also enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing tennis and spending time caring for all the horses, dogs, cats and the myriad of other animals she and her family adopted.

Those that knew Ginny understood her commitment and love for a special group of Friendswood ladies who called themselves “The Dirty Dozen”. These women were best friends for many decades and supported one another through good times and bad.

Ginny is predeceased by her husband Clinton and her brother Cole Younger Townley Jr. She is survived by her two sons, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. These include her eldest son Clinton R Hackney, III, and his wife Toby (Sawyer) Hackney, their three children Markayla, Taylor, and Isabella, and their two children Brynn and Tenley; and, her youngest son Steven Townley Hackney and his ex-wife Candi (Walker) Hackney, their sons Travis and Bryce, and their children Sebastian, Lyra and Raynar.

In lieu of a service, the family requests donations be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital, a children’s cause she felt very strongly about. Links to this organization are: https://www.shrinerschildrens.org/en
