Gardeners in the area have all suffered from heat related gardening this summer. There are ways to have plants continue to live and the gardener succeed in her/his work even if temperatures soar. Harris County Master Gardener and Heritage Gardener Michelle Getz will present Beating the Heat and Other Garden Strategies at the Heritage Gardener meeting October 5, 2023.

Getz has weathered the heat successfully and will share tips and strategies for doing so. She will also share other garden strategies that has worked in her own landscaping and garden beds.

Getz presents Garden Tasks each meeting, providing what to do during that particular month of the year. The information entails what to plant, what to remove, plants that can be divided or sowed at that time and more. As a Master Gardener, she provides information that works well in Galveston, Harris and Brazoria Counties where their plant zone is 9.
Anyone interested in gardening is invited to attend. Meet and greet begins at 9:30 am with the speaker starting approximately at 10 am. A short intermission will follow and then the business meeting will be held for the club.

Heritage Gardeners meet the first Thursday of each month September through May. The members are currently planning their Christmas Home Tour and Holiday Events, Dressed in Holiday Style. The fundraiser is held annually the weekend before Thanksgiving which is November 18 and 19 this year. Beautifully decorated private homes in Friendswood will open their doors and share their holiday spirit on the tour. Tickets will be available soon at area businesses in Friendswood and at Wild Bird Unlimited in Pearland.

Also that weekend will be the Holiday Market filled with vendors providing items to check off your holiday gift giving list. There will again be a Santa’s Sweet Shoppe at the clubhouse offering homemade cakes, pies, cookies and candies just in time for Thanksgiving, saving for Christmas or to be eaten immediately.

Raffles and a special Treasure Chest Boutique will also be held. It is all happening at 112 W. Spreading Oaks. This is also the address for monthly meetings.
