Active shooter training program planned

The Alvin Police Department will coordinate an active shooter training civilian response program free for the public on Oct. 3 and Oct. 24.

CRASE, or Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Manvel High School and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Shadow Creek High School.

The course was developed in 2004 to provide civilians with guidance, strategies and proven plans during an active shooter event.

Topics covered include statistical data and active shooter profiles, situational awareness, effects of stress on behavior, lessons learned during recent events, crisis management, strategies to keeping loved ones safe during an active shooter event, law enforcement response and a Stop the Bleed program.
