Special council election planned for two seats

With two sitting councilmen planning to seek a higher office, the City of Pearland will hold a special election Dec. 9 to fill those seats.

Filing opens Tuesday for Pearland City Council Position No. 3 and Position No. 6, currently held by Alex Kamkar and Jeffrey Barry, respectively.

Both councilmen have announced their intention to run for Texas House District 29, where Rep. Ed Thompson is not seeking reelection.

The first day to file for a place on the ballot is Tuesday, Oct. 10, and last day is Oct. 30.
Winners of the special election will serve the remainder of each term. Position No. 3 ends in May of 2026, and Position No. 6 ends in May of 2025. All council positions are at-large.
Early voting begins Nov. 27 at three locations.
