She googled the phone number for Zelle, called it, and was connected with a person who she believed to be a representative of Zelle. As it turns out, it was not a Zelle representative but a scammer. He convinced the victim to download AnyDesk (an application that allows someone to remotely access your device) and Cash App under the ruse that Cash App and Zelle had merged and the Zelle app was currently down. Then, he had the victim connect her bank account and wire some money for a “test”. Then, the victim was talked into purchasing Bitcoin through Cash App.
