Burgess, Dawson runs past Alvin 61-10

It was the Bryce Burgess show against the Alvin Yellowjackets as the senior running back did something no other Dawson player has ever done.

The speedster had 11 carries for 197 yards (192 in the first half) and scored five touchdowns for a new DHS single-game scoring record, while catching one pass for eight yards for a total of 205 yards, mostly in the first half. Dawson won the game 61-10.

Burgess could have easily run his way possibly to a new Houston area rushing record, but Dawson head coach Mike Allison had vowed not to run up the score over a hapless Alvin football team.

The Eagles led 33-7 at halftime and could have gone above the 61 points as Allison cleared the bench for all to play in the game.

Burgess scored all of his touchdowns in the opening half as he scored on runs of 16, 15, and 4-yards in the opening period to give the Eagles a 19-0 lead. One PAT was blocked, and a two-point conversion pass was incomplete.

The Burgess show continued in the second quarter as he scored two more times on runs of 10 and 69 yards. His two scores sandwiched a 5-yard touchdown by Jordan Rivera of Alvin.
Ayden Treadaway booted the PATs for the Eagles and a 33-7 lead at intermission.

Dawson cleared the bench in the second half and still scored two times in each quarter while giving up a 32-yard field goal to Alvin in the fourth period.

QB Gage Greene threw two scoring passes in the third quarter before he was sent to the bench. Greene hit Rodney Bonham on a 39-yard scoring strike and found Bonham again on a 17-yard scoring toss. Aaron Jensen hit both PATs for a 47-7 advantage.

The final two scores came in the fourth period when Clifton Jones scored on a 13-yard dash, and Corey Brown found the pay station on a 10-yard run. Treadaway hit both PATs to post the 61-10 final score.
