Tejano Superjam makes cooler return

An evening of classic and contemporary Tejano music performed at Pearland’s Independence Park returns this Saturday when gates open at 4 p.m. for the second Tejano Superjam.

The inaugural event was held over the summer at Independence Park, but coordinators decided to make the second version more comfortable for both musicians and attendees.
“It was a hot day — we will not be doing it in July again,” event committee member Alberto Ruiz said. “We decided instead to do it in November, and it will most likely be an annual event.”

Despite the Texas heat, the first Tejano Superjam drew about 4,000 people.

“We believe it to be one of the most successful paid ticket concerts in Pearland’s history,” said Ruiz, whose law firm is an event sponsor.

Approximately 25 percent of Pearland and 30 percent of Brazoria County is Hispanic.
“Our goal is to make this an annual event and our goal is to continue to grow and disseminate our love of Tejano music,” Ruiz said.

Live music begins at 5:30 p.m., and acts include Bobby and Roberto Pulido, Little Joe Y la Familia, La Fiebre, Gabriella Martinez, and Bianca Ruiz. The concert is expected to last until approximately 11:30 p.m. Blankets and lawn chairs are recommended.

Presale tickets can be purchased online for $30. For more information, call 979-665-1923.
