Pearland Police have charged the father of a six-year-old killed in a shooting Friday with unlawful possession of a firearm.

The child’s father, a 27-year-old Houston barber, is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, according to a press release from the department. No charges have been filed “directly related to the child’s death,” the report states.

Police were called to an apartment complex in the 12300 block of Shadow Creek Parkway at about 11:30 a.m. Friday.

“This is an active investigation by the Pearland Police Department Criminal Investigations Division,” the statement reads.

According to Harris County court records, the child’s father has felonies for burglary from 2013, drug possession in 2018, credit card abuse, and evading arrest in 2021.
