12×12 Art Fundraiser becomes a Friendswood tradition

Date:

There is a saying in College Station that goes, “If it happens twice, it’s a tradition.”

In that same spirit, a fresh and inspiring tradition has taken root in Friendswood, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Friendswood Rotary Club and the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation.

Dubbed the “12×12 Art Project”, this unique event brings together local artists, including talented high school students, to create and auction artwork on a 12×12 inch canvas.

The inaugural viewing of this distinctive art sale took place at the Friendswood Library on November 15th, transforming the space into a vibrant gallery of local creativity. The event was marked by the participation of several notable artists, including several FHS students whose remarkable artworks were among the many that captivated attendees.

This innovative fundraiser transcends the traditional art exhibit; it is a dedicated effort to support fine arts education within Friendswood ISD. Proceeds from the auction are allocated for fine arts grants, directly benefiting the district’s students and reinforcing the community’s commitment to fostering artistic talent.

The event’s success owes much to the dedication and passion of the organizers, volunteers, and artists. Their combined efforts not only showcased an array of artistic talents but also highlighted the community’s dedication to supporting the arts in education.

Judy Wiggins, a member of the 12 x 12 Art Project Committee, reflected on the event’s impact: “The enthusiasm and generosity seen at the 12×12 Art Project are heartwarming. It’s a clear indication of our community’s commitment to nurturing young artists and enriching our educational landscape.”

With its successful debut, the 12×12 Art Sale is poised to become an annual highlight in Friendswood, symbolizing the city’s vibrant cultural spirit and its ongoing support for the arts. The community eagerly anticipates the next edition of this event, promising to further enrich Friendswood’s cultural tapestry and support the artistic aspirations of its youth.
