Pearland residents will select two new council members this Saturday to serve out terms of two members who are running for a higher office.

Polls open at 7 a.m. Saturday and will remain open until 7 p.m. at three voting locations: The Tom Reid Library, 3522 Liberty Drive; West Pearland Community Center, 2150 Countryplace Parkway; and the West Pearland Library, 11801 Shadow Creek Parkway.

After State Rep. Ed Thompson announced he would retire his seat representing House District 29, Pearland councilmen Alex Kamkar and Jeffrey Barry announced they would seek the Republican nomination in the March primary.

Winners of Saturday’s election will serve the remainder of each term. Kamkar’s Position No. 3 ends in May 2026, and Barry’s Position No. 6 ends in May 2025. All council positions are at-large.

Also running in the Republican primary for District 29 is former councilman Trent Perez. The primary winner will face the Democratic nominee in the November 2024 election. Adrienne Bell of Pearland is the sole Democrat who has filed for that position.
