ACC Regents Hear Audit Report

Date:

Alvin Community College received high marks in fiscal responsibility according to a recent audit delivered to the college board of regents meeting on January 11.

The auditing firm Belt, Harris, and Pechacek issued an unmodified opinion of the college’s financial statements for the 2022-23 fiscal year.

“We’ve given the college the highest level of assurance we can give you on the college’s finances,” said Ben Cohen, senior manager with the firm.

According to the audit, the college’s net position is at $20.59 million, an increase from the $13.64 million in the previous fiscal year. The regents voted unanimously to transfer $3.16 million from the college’s fund balance to institutional reserve, representing enough funding for the college’s operations for six months.

“It is a good spot to be in,” Cohen said. “These are all good signs that the college is doing well financially.”

The auditor also issued a “clean” opinion on the ACC Foundation’s financial status from the previous fiscal year.

Regents also:

-approved hiring of the Dean of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Linet George
-approved the hiring of the Dean of Career and Technical Programs, Dr. Harrold Griffin
-approved hiring of Nursing faculty
-approved order of the general and special election for the May 4 election date
-approved Memorandum of Understanding with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for a new Skills Award program
-approved interlocal agreement with the Texas Community College Business Officers organization

The board will meet on Thursday, February 22, at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.
