FHS students excel at Model United Nations

Date:

Students from a newly formed after-school student organization made their debut at the prestigious Houston Area Model United Nations conference, impressing attendees and bringing home honors.

Under the guidance of Social Studies Teacher and UIL Current Issues Coach Katie Ellis, the Friendswood delegation participated in the conference at the University of Houston. They were among over 1200 students from various schools, engaging in intense debates and collaborative efforts to address global issues.

Model United Nations (Model U.N.) provides a dynamic platform for students to step into the shoes of delegates from different countries. The conference is known for its rigorous academic environment, where students negotiate, collaborate, and debate to form resolutions on pressing world issues.

It offers a unique blend of learning and networking opportunities, fostering skills in diplomacy, international relations, and public speaking.

“I am incredibly proud of our students for not only representing Friendswood High School at such a prestigious event but also for the initiative they have shown in starting this after-school student organization,” stated Coach Ellis. She also expressed her excitement over the team’s successful participation and the recognition they received.

Among the Friendswood delegates, Aayush Jetly stood out by receiving the designation of Honorable Delegate in the General Assembly Plenary, a significant accomplishment highlighting his exceptional diplomatic skills and understanding of global affairs.

The community is encouraged to join Coach Ellis in celebrating the achievements of these dedicated students: Camille Arthur; Rayyan Mahmood; Declan Chari; Alexandra Garcia; Oneli Ekanayake; Hisham Jawed; Jude Krancher; Aayush Jetly; and Brandi Busic
Ellis anticipates further achievements as these young minds continue to engage with and contribute to important global discussions.
