Bluetonium celebrates first tournament win

Date:

Friendswood High School’s FRC robotics team, Bluetonium, achieved a significant milestone over the weekend by clinching their first-ever tournament victory. The Space City FRC District Competition was held at Clear Brook High School last weekend and included 42 teams from around the state, including two CCISD teams: Robonauts and CHIPS.

The victory marks a significant achievement for Bluetonium, especially considering it was the last regular-season competition of the year. This win is not just a triumph but also a poignant moment for the team’s graduating seniors—Haley Clausen, Madi Meyer, David Reyes, and Connor Nelson. These students were honored with their FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) Alumni pins, a ceremony that symbolizes their contributions and dedication to the team over the years.

Coach Evan Williams highlighted the remarkable progress the team has made in just two years, saying, “This success story is not just about individual accolades but also about the spirit of collaboration and community. We would not be here today without the support of neighboring teams, like Pearadox and Robonauts, that have mentored us.”

Bluetonium and their robot, affectionately named Bubbles, remained competitive throughout the season by regularly practicing at Pearland’s Turner High School while Friendswood High School continues to undergo renovations.

As this season comes to a close, Bluetonium will begin preparations to move into a brand new facility at Friendswood High School in the Fall, complete with a full-size practice field and machine shop which will help them continue their meteoric rise, and prepare them for many more victories in the future.

The FHS Robotics program is led by engineering teachers Evan Williams, Melissa Sauceda, and Jim Foreman and the Director of CTE, Susan Kirkpatrick. The program also relies on generous support from parents, sponsors, and mentors. If you want to learn how to support the program, please email skirkpatrick@fisdk12.net.
