A portion of Pearland Parkway will be closed this Saturday for the city’s Spring Fest celebration at Independence Park.
Free to attend, the festival is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free parking available at Pearland High School, 3775 Main St.
Pearland Parkway will be closed from Oiler Drive to Magnolia from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
At this year’s Spring Fest, the “Turn the Page Literacy Initiative” seeks to collect new or gently used books for low-income families with children. KHOU’s campaign is based on statistics showing that 61 percent of low-income families have no books in their homes.
Since 2016, it has provided more than 100,000 books for Houston area children through donations. Book donations should be new or gently used with no torn pages or covers and appropriate for children. These can include board books, chapters, and storybooks, along with non-fiction that children can enjoy. More information on the campaign, which ends April 19, is available at khou.com/books.
In addition to live entertainment, Spring Fest will include an H-E-B Imagination Station, a Mad Science Booth sponsored by UHCL Pearland, interactive attractions, a craft market, and food vendors.
Live entertainment will include the Leslie Lugo Band, a Juggling Show by the Alex Chimal Family Circus, a Pearland Fire Marshal K9 Demo, the Jonah Miles Band, Edu-Katie, Tres Amigos Mariachi, and Velvet Punch.
Wristbands for an assortment of inflatables and rides will be available for $10, but those who participate in this year’s book drive by bringing a donation to the KHOU drop box can receive $1 off.
