Pearland’s newest councilman, Clint Byrom, took the oath of office on Monday along with reelected councilman Tony Carbone.
The owner of a development and home construction firm, Byrom edged out opponent Veronica Kreuder-Longoria for a seat on the council. Carbone was unopposed for his position.
Byrom will succeed retiring councilman Adrian Hernandez, who held the position for six years.
“We love to reminisce about what (the past) was like, but when people in my age group sit down together, it’s the greatest time to be alive,” he said. “That is how I feel about the city.”
Honored at his final council meeting on Monday, Hernandez thanked fellow council members and city staff.
“The people who are part of this organization show up to make lives better,” he said.
Byrom’s first vote on the council was for a measure to name Carbone as mayor pro tem, which passed unanimously.
