The Friendswood High School Weightlifting Club made history at the National Championship in Pittsburgh, delivering an impressive performance that earned them several team and individual accolades. This year’s championship was a landmark event for the club, marking unprecedented success and setting new milestones.

The club’s most notable achievement was clinching First Place in the 16-17-year-old Boys category, securing its first Team National Championship in its history.

In addition to this remarkable victory, the team earned 2nd Place in the All Ages Youth Boys category. This is the first time the Friendswood High School Weightlifting Club has placed in the all-age category, showcasing the depth of talent across different age groups.

The girls’ team also made their mark by securing 3rd Place in the 16-17 Year Old Girls category, another first for the club. This highlights the increasing strength and competitiveness of the girls’ division within the club.

Individually, the club’s lifters set new records and brought home significant awards. Jackson Slaughter emerged as a standout athlete, being named the 16-17 102kg National Champion. Slaughter’s performance was stellar, earning him:

– 1st Place Total
– 1st Place Clean and Jerk (first clean and jerk medal in club history)
– 2nd Place Snatch

Slaughter’s triumph marks the club’s first National Champion.

William Guse also delivered a commendable performance in the 16-17 102kg category, securing:

– 3rd Place Overall
– 1st Place Snatch (first snatch gold medal in club history)
– 4th Place Clean and Jerk

Guse’s achievements added to the club’s historic haul, demonstrating the team’s overall strength and skill.

The weightlifting club’s success can be largely attributed to Coach Joseph Taylor’s dedicated guidance. As the club head and the Strength and conditioning instructor at Friendswood High School, Coach Taylor has played a pivotal role in developing the athletes’ skills and fostering a culture of excellence.
