The City of Friendswood is mourning the loss of former Police Chief Robert “Bob” Wieners, who passed away over the weekend at the age of 71. Wieners served the Friendswood community with distinction for 24 years, leaving a legacy of dedication, leadership, and compassion. His passing marks the end of an era for the city, where he was not only a respected law enforcement officer but also a beloved mentor and friend.

Chief Wieners’ commitment to public service extended far beyond his role as police chief. Before joining the Friendswood Police Department, he served as a United States Marine, demonstrating the same level of integrity and dedication that would define his law enforcement career. His colleagues and community members remember him as a “true Friendswood legend,” whose impact will be felt for generations to come.

Friendswood Mayor Mike Foreman expressed his sorrow, stating, “Bob Wieners was a great American. An extraordinary Marine, stellar police chief, and true Friendswood legend. I will miss him tremendously.”

The Friendswood Police Department has set up a memorial outside its headquarters at 1600 Whitaker Drive, where residents are invited to pay their respects. Visitation services will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Mary Queen Catholic Church. A funeral mass will follow on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 10:30 A.M., also at Mary Queen Catholic Church.

Chief Wieners’ passing is a profound loss for the community he served so faithfully. His legacy of integrity, dedication, and service will be remembered and honored by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
