The Friendswood Junior High (FJH) Choir Department had an outstanding performance at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Region 17 Choir Auditions held on Saturday, Oct. 5 at FJH. A total of 55 seventh and eighth-grade FJH choir students participated in the audition, competing against students from over 25 intermediate schools across the region.
Over the past six weeks, FJH choir students dedicated themselves to learning three new pieces of music through classroom instruction, individual practice, and by attending the Region Choir Camp hosted by FJH Choir on Sept. 7. In a blind audition process, students sang behind a screen for a panel of three judges, ensuring a fair evaluation.
FJH is proud to announce that 33 of its students were selected for the Region Choir—more than any other school in the region. This achievement marks a significant accomplishment for the FJH Choir Department, reflecting the hard work and dedication of both students and directors.
The selected students will perform at the Region Choir Concert and Clinic, to be held at Gloria Dei Church in Clear Lake on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. Admission to the event is free, and the community is encouraged to attend and support these talented young musicians.
FJH Choir Director Laura Rachita and Assistant Director Christi Adams expressed their gratitude to the FJH Choir Booster Club and the many parents who volunteered their time and culinary skills to help make this year’s auditions one of the most successful in recent memory. One visiting judge remarked, “Thank you so much for hosting every year! I love coming to Friendswood.”
Friendswood Junior High is honored to host this prestigious event each year, showcasing the exceptional talents of the region’s young vocalists.
