The Friendswood Artist Collective is hosting its first annual Open Studios Tour on Nov 22, 4-7 pm, and Nov. 23, 10 am to 3 pm. The Collective is a group of five local painters with diverse perspectives and creative processes who collaborate to promote their collective artistry within the local community.
The Open Studios tour is free of charge and allows guests to see artists’ studios and workspaces, talk with artists about their creative process, and see paintings in progress. It is an opportunity to buy paintings directly from local artists. Light refreshments will be served at each studio.
Artists exhibiting their work include Susan Steinberg, Kathy Hammond, Julie Vineze Sanderson, Carrie Wright, and Sherri Harris.
Studios on the tour include:
• Susan Steinberg, 401 West Shadowbend Ave. Friendswood
• Art Studio 132 (Kathy Hammond, Julie Vincze Sanderson & Carrie Wright), 18223 Co. Road 132, Pearland
• Sherri Harris, 512 Lakeside Lane, Friendswood
Steinberg is a watercolor artist living in Friendswood. She has a PhD and, for many years, studied plants and how they interact with their environment. She brings this knowledge to artistic studies of her favorite subjects: plants, birds, and the wide-open spaces of the American West.
Hammond has been a mural artist in the Houston Area since 1993 and, before that, a graphic artist. Her current paintings are diverse and she loves to experiment with different kinds of subject matter. She is a frequent participant and award winner at Texas Plein Air Events.
Julie Sanderson is an artist who grew up in the Clear Lake area and now resides in Friendswood, Texas. After careers in advertising and interior design, she now pursues painting full time. Primarily painting in oil in plein air since 2019, she participates in high-profile competitions from Texas to Pennsylvania.
Wright is a mixed media artist living in Friendswood. She draws inspiration from nature, textures, patterns, shapes, and especially color. She has enjoyed a long career in the decorative arts, painting, and designing anything and everything.
Harris is an abstract oil and cold wax painter based in Friendswood. She draws inspiration from her experiences camping throughout Texas, her travels, the beauty of nature, and her deep faith. With over 12 years of painting experience, her work is characterized by a contemplative and reflective approach, utilizing layers to create depth and mystery.
Guests can begin the self-guided tour at any studio. The studio tour includes art giveaways. Pick up the tour itinerary at your first stop and get it signed at all studios. Each completed itinerary will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win art.
The Open Studio offers an additional complementary tour option to the Heritage Gardeners Home Tour that weekend.
