Pearland ISD High Schools Make Prestigious AP Honor Roll Achievement

Date:

Pearland High School and Dawson High School were recently named Silver recipients on the 2024 AP Honor Roll Recognition list. The AP® School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
Pearland ISD is among 5,061 school districts honored with a spot on the list this year.
“We’re incredibly proud of this achievement, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and staff. Our fast-paced AP classes challenge students to reach their full potential, preparing them for the rigors of college and career. By providing advanced learning opportunities, we’re empowering our students to become confident, lifelong learners,” said Dr. Joseph Cahill, Pearland ISD director of Advanced Academics.
The AP School Honor Roll offers four levels of distinction: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
For a school to be recognized on the AP School Honor Roll in a given year, it must meet the following criteria for its students in the most recent graduating class. These criteria are anchored in research-based relationships between AP and college outcomes:
College Culture: 40% or more of the graduating cohort took at least 1 AP Exam during high school.
College Credit: 25% or more of the graduating cohort scored a three or higher on at least 1 AP Exam during high school.
College Optimization: 2% or more of the graduating cohort took five or more AP Exams during high school. At least 1 of those exams was taken in 9th or 10th grade, so students are spreading their AP experience across grades rather than feeling disproportionate pressure in any year.
Have full-time grade-12 enrollments. AP coordinators can update this information online in AP Registration and Ordering.
Be located within the United States (including U.S. territories) or Canada.
Compared to traditional classes, Pearland ISD’s AP courses meet college-level standards and offer more depth and complexity, incorporate more sophisticated learning processes, and develop better time management and study skills.
