Texas Parks and Wildlife Department stocking rainbow trout

Date:

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will begin stocking thousands of rainbow trout in lakes across the state during Thanksgiving week.
Rainbow trout can be caught using simple, light tackle or hand-tied flies on a fly rod. They are tasty and easy to prepare, according to Carl Kittel, TPWD rainbow trout program director.

“Our winter rainbow trout program has been a favorite of anglers for over 40 years,” he said.

Trout stocking season runs through March 9 since the fish cannot survive in most areas of Texas after winter due to the warm water temperatures. The department manages 18 Neighborhood Fishin’ lakes statewide where the fish are stocked.
