The Alvin Community College Process Technology program received a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission for
The $349,980 grant was issued through the Jobs and Education for Texans program from the Texas Workforce Commission.
“As Texas’ economy continues to grow, it is critical that we invest in our future workforce,” said Texas Governor Greg Abbott. “This $15 million in career training grants will support career and technical training programs for thousands of Texas students across our great state.”
The grant for ACC will fund the purchase and installation of a Pignat OTP-DC Distillation Unit, which is vital for student training, said Don Parus, ACC Process Technology Chair.
“The JET Grant funds will allow PTEC students to work on a true industrial scale unit,” he said. “The unit will permit extended runs so students can experience working on shift, sharing unit logs between shifts, relieving shift workers, and taking sampling to validate the separation results. These are all required skills that each process technician must learn to be a qualified plant operator.”
The JET program provides funding for equipment to eligible educational institutions for the purpose of developing career and technical education courses and may include courses offering dual-credit and technical education programs. Equipment funded through JET grants must be used to train students for jobs in high-demand occupations.
The grant awarded to ACC was one of 60 issued by the Texas Workforce Commission in December for $15 million.
