Car inspections not needed in new year

Date:

Drivers of private vehicles in Texas no longer need to get vehicles inspected after January 1.

House Bill 3297 passed during the 88th Legislature in 2023. Private vehicle owners still pay a $7.50 inspection program replacement fee but do not need to have the car inspected.

Still, drivers of private vehicles in 17 Texas counties must continue emissions testing — these counties include Brazoria, Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, and Galveston counties.

For more about inspections, visit TxDMV.gov.
