Alvin ISD moves on bond sales, projectsThis month, the Alvin ISD Board approved a resolution for the district to move forward with campus security upgrades funded through voter-approved bond sales.
Since issuing the bonds and receiving the funds takes several months, the board’s action allows the district to start projects now and be reimbursed when bond proceeds are received.
Alvin ISD recently approved a $380.1 million bond package designed to address facility needs, including security vestibules at 25 campuses, monitoring equipment, and backup generators.
At the same meeting, the school board authorized the district to get started on the bond sales process with no discussion.
After a closed executive session, the board, in an open session, authorized the district to negotiate a land purchase in Brazoria County. The facility needs in the bond package included land purchases and construction of two new elementary campuses and one junior high, expansion and renovations at Alvin and Manvel high schools, and combining Stevenson Primary and Walt Disney Elementary into one new replacement campus. This includes security vestibules at 25 campuses, monitoring equipment, and backup generators.
